Ensemble Allsorts

For ages 11+

Ensemble Allsorts offers high quality musical theatre training in a supportive, welcoming environment.

Whether students already have performance experience or are stepping into a class for the first time, Ensemble helps them grow at their own pace. There is no expectation that students want to pursue musical theatre professionally - we use performing arts to help every young person become more confident, creative, mature and self-assured.

Classes are taught by industry professionals with experience across the West End, touring theatre, film and television. Students receive professional level guidance in singing, dancing and acting while developing the independence, discipline and resilience that will benefit them both on and off the stage.

As their skills progress, students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their own learning, respond positively to feedback and approach new challenges with confidence. We want every student to feel valued, supported and proud of their individual progress.

When? Sundays, 10AM-1PM

Where? New College Durham, DH1 5ES
We are temporarily moving to The Fulforth Centre, Sacriston, due to renovation works at New College Durham.

What’s in Store?

  • Vocal Technique: Students will develop healthy vocal technique, breath control, expression and confidence through songs from a wide range of musical theatre styles. Material is adapted to suit different levels of experience, allowing every student to be challenged without feeling out of their depth.

  • Choreography & Dance: Through energetic routines inspired by theatre and the wider dance industry, students will develop coordination, rhythm, stamina and physical storytelling. They’ll also become more confident learning and remembering choreography independently.

  • Acting & Character Development: Scene work, improvisation and acting exercises help students understand characters, explore emotions and communicate more truthfully. These activities encourage creativity, empathy and the confidence to make their own performance choices.

  • Confidence, Maturity & Independence: Ensemble is about much more than performance. Students are encouraged to speak up, share ideas, solve problems, take responsibility and approach challenges with a positive mindset. Over time, they become more self-aware, resilient and confident in themselves.

  • Ensemble Work & Collaboration: Musical theatre is a team effort. Students learn to listen, respond, support others and contribute positively to a group. This develops trust, cooperation, communication and respect for the people around them.

  • Performance Opportunities: Throughout the year, students have opportunities to perform and put their training into practice. These experiences help develop confidence, stage presence, commitment and the ability to work calmly and responsibly towards a shared goal.

  • Feedback & Personal Growth: Students receive constructive, individual feedback that celebrates their strengths and gives them clear areas to work on. Our dedicated Written Feedback Week helps each student understand how they have progressed and take ownership of their next steps.

  • Community & Social Events: Creative Allsorts is a community as well as a training environment. Each term, we aim to offer at least one social event where students can relax, have fun and build friendships outside of class. These may include themed parties, theatre trips or team-building activities.

Students leave Ensemble Allsorts not only as stronger performers, but as more confident, mature, creative and capable young people. Whether they dream of a career on the stage or simply want to try something new, they’ll gain skills, friendships and experiences that can stay with them for life.
